Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Nations Around
The following sketch of the early history of the; great Eastern Empires, whose territories surrounded, and sometimes included, Palestine, is entitled The Nations Around, because the writer's aim has been to dwell chie?y on the periods and circumstances which brought these people into connexion with the Hebrews, and to regard their history somewhat in the re?ected light of the interest which attaches to all that concerns the heroes of the sacred narrative. This has been done in the double hope of making some points of the Bible history clearer to some readers, and of awakening a more lively interest in the history of The Nations Around the Jews, than is usually felt when they are regarded quite inde pendently.
