Sir: I have the honor to present for publication a report on the con dition of the crops in August, including cotton, corn, spring wheat, rye, barley, buckwheat potatoes, tobacco, hay, pasture, sorghum, sugar cane, apples, peaches, and grapes.
A brief report is made of essential facts bearing on the problem of American competition with European agriculture, with extracts from reports of the British commission on the same subject, with views of German, French, and Austrian publicists.
Current changes in transportation freight rates are presented.
