Philippi Schiassn, qui honesto genere Bononiae prognatus est anno mille simo septingentesimo sexagesimo tertio, pueritia et adolescentia, quarum studiis reliqua fere hominis vita conformari solet, in ea inciderunt tempora, quibus Bononia, quae semper doctrinae domicilium est habita, optimarum disciplinarum gloria, si unquam alias, explondescehat. Etenim praeter Archigymnasii scholas, de quibus iam inde a remotissima aetate fama ubique gentium percrebuerat, disci plinarum et artium Institutum, ad publicum totius orbis usum (sic enim inscriptum olim legebatur in fronte magnificarum eiusdem Instituti aedium ab Aloisio Ferdi nando Marsilio conditum instru�tumque, a Benedicto XIV ditatum et auctnm, et a compluribus viris patriciis Bononiensibus certatim muneribus exornatum, tota Europa adeo iam celebrabatur, ut quicunque in eo docerent, vel inter sociales Philosophos Marsilianos, vel inter Sodales Benedictinos eidem Instituto adiectos coopta ti essent, omnium sermone et praeconiis tanquam sapientissimi commendarentur. Proxime et secundum Eustachium Manfredium, municipem meum, doctrinis pene omnibus ad miraculum eruditum scriptoremque utraque lingua inter primos numerandum, magnam Bononiensi Instituto domi forisque existimationem oomparaverat Franciscus Maria Zanottus octo illis Commentariorum voluminibus, quae triginta et amplius annorum spatio in vulgus emisit, quamdiu scilicet summi soribao ab actis munere perfunctus sedit in puppi, ut ipse aiebat, et artium disciplinarumque omnium tenuit gubernacula. Quibus sane voluminibus non solum Instituti historiam a primis initiis ad ultimum usque tempus productam, et Marsilii auctoris summorumque virorum, per quos Institutum in tantum honoris ascendit, vitas et merita in oculis conspectuque omnium exponit; sed de cunctis plane rebus, quae cum ad philosophiam, tum ad mathematicas et ph ysicas res pertinent, ita commode et perito disserit, ut omnem illarum pene infinitam vim ac materiam doctrinarum adsiduo usu perceptam cognitamque habuisse appareat.
