Several communications and statements from American concerns have suggested the advisability of admitting some of the articles in this schedule free of duty. However desirable this might be, the revenue features preclude the possibility of the admission of anythm g except plows, hoes, machetes, cane knives, etc., for agricultural pur poses, and other agricultural implements, not machinery, free. The sobea ule, however, has been materially reduced and the inequalities, as far as possible, eradicated, and it is believed that in its present shape it will not be burdensome to those enterprises in Cuba which will require the commodities coming in under this class, nor will it retard the American enterprise in its endeavor to supply the Cuban market with manufactures into which metals enter as a principal element.
